Have you ever wondered how some people can hold their breath for very long and dive? This is the fairly new and growing world of freediving! Aquarius Scuba is proud to begin it’s very own freediving training at the Etobicoke Olympium on Monday nights.

            What is freediving?

Freediving is any of various aquatic activities that share the practice of breath-hold underwater diving. Examples include breath-hold spearfishing, freedive photography, apnea competitions and, to a degree, snorkeling. The activity that garners the most public attention is competitive apnea, an extreme sport, in which competitors attempt to attain great depths, times or distances on a single breath without direct assistance of an underwater breathing apparatus.

The sport of freediving is becoming more popular all over the world, especially with younger generations, and we are proud to say we have helped it grow in Toronto. Join our class and pool session, and you will meet pro freediving coaches, who were part of the world-record breath-hold dive.

Join our optional 1 year Club Membership for only $150, to benefit from world class coaching and quality practice at the Etobicoke Olympium Pool.

**PLEASE NOTE: Discover Freediving is offered on Monday nights at the Etobicoke Olympium Pool. The AIDA 1 Star Pool course is offered every second Thursday of every month. You may upgrade to AIDA 2 Star at any time and continue on with your training on the next 2-3 Thursday nights. Choose the month that best fits your schedule.**

            Product Description

              AIDA 1 Star

The AIDA 1 Star Freediving Course introduces students to freediving. In this course you will learn the basic theory of freediving, how to prepare for a breath hold, and how to snorkel/freedive safely. This course is intended for complete beginners who want to learn to snorkel or freedive no deeper than 10 meters, or as an introduction class that will lay groundwork for more training at a later date.

2 hour classroom and 1 hour in the pool. Pool only, no open water

              No prerequisite course is required

              AIDA 2 Star (Pool Only)

This is probably the most rewarding AIDA course. For those who are already confident in water this course is your starting point to freediving. The course builds a foundation of good technique and safety so that you can buddy with other AIDA 2 star freedivers.

Our AIDA 2 star pool courses start on the second Thursday of the month. Class room is from 18:00 – 20:00 at Aquarius Scuba, please contact us for details. The pool is same night from 20:30 to 21:30 at George Harvey Collegiate. The course completes in 3 Thursdays.

The AIDA 2 star course normally include pool and depth, but it is too cold in fall, winter and spring to bring students in Canadian lakes. This means that from October to June we only run the pool portion of the AIDA 2 star. If you decide that you love freediving you can always add the depth portion on when summer finally comes.

The AIDA 2 star pool course will include information about freediving equipment, freediving theory, correct breathing and stretching exercises. It will also include the very important aspect of how to be safe freediving and how to provide safety for others.

To successfully complete the AIDA 2 star freediver pool course you will have to perform a 2 minute breath hold and  swim 40 m underwater with fins.

You will need your own mask, snorkel and fins and at least a shorty wet suit. A full length triathlon wet suit is recommended for the pool.

Sign up by selecting the course start date that works for you.

AIDA 2 Star (Open Water Certification)

You must have completed the pool portion of the AIDA 2 star course.

We will be running open water certification during the summer months.

If you join us for the AIDA 2 Star Open Water Certification we welcome you to come train with us every Monday and Tuesday to improve your depth diving.

You can come out any Monday and Tuesday during the summer as long as you let us know before hand and we will make sure to go through the open water skills with you and shows you have to get to depth safely.

AIDA 2 Star (Pool & Open Water Certification)

Take the AIDA 2 Star course the true Canadian way – freedive in Ontario open waters. You’ll be surprised how beautiful it is, especially up in Tobermory.

Give those tropical folks a run for their money, eh!

The AIDA 2 Star course will show you how to get into freediving safely. You will see how quickly it is possible to learn to hold your breath longer than you thought possible and dive deeper than you have before.

Course Content: This course will give you 3 nights of freediving theory in a classroom, three nights in the pool and at least 3 open water dives. We will also cover stretching and breathing exercises for freediving.

When you complete the course you will become a certified AIDA 2 star freediver.

The classroom and pool will be held over three Monday nights.

Locations: Classroom from 6:30-8:30pm at Swansea Town Hall.
Pool is from 9:00 – 10:30 at the Etobicoke Olympium.

The open water dives are on Tuesdays from 5pm – 8pm at Dolime Quarry

Prerequisites: You need to be comfortable swimming 200 meters without rest. If you are not at this level as a swimmer we suggest you take swimming lessons first.

              AIDA 3 Star (Depth Training)

The AIDA 3 Star course builds on the skills learned during the AIDA 2 star.

Interested in going deeper and improving your technique?

This course goes into the theory of Freediving in more depth which will allow you to understand the physiology and techniques behind diving deeper.

The course will help you improve your Freediving performance whilst advancing your safety and rescue skills. This course consists of three theory sessions, two pool sessions and four open water dives.

Requirements: To successfully complete the AIDA 3 star freediver course you will have to perform a 2 minute 45 second breath hold, swim 55 m underwater with fins and dive to 24 meters in the open water.

              • Peak Performance Buoyancy

                $150.00

Excellent buoyancy control is what defines skilled scuba divers. You’ve seen them underwater. They glide effortlessly, use less air and ascend, descend or hover almost as if by thought. They more easily observe aquatic life without disturbing their surroundings. You can achieve this, too. The Peak Performance Buoyancy Specialty course improves the buoyancy skills you learned as a new diver and elevates them to the next level.

(Junior) Open Water Divers or higher, who are at least 10 years old, are eligible to take the Peak Performance Buoyancy course.

                Course materials required.

              • Night Diver

                $150.00

The thought of dipping below the surface at night seems mysterious, yet so alluring. Although you’ve been scuba diving at a site many times before, at night you drop into a whole new world and watch it come to life under the glow of your dive light. The scene changes as day creatures retire and nocturnal organisms emerge. If you’ve wondered what happens underwater after the sun goes down, sign up for the Night Diver Specialty course.

(Junior) Open Water Divers or higher, who are at least 12 years old, can enroll in the Night Diver specialty course.

                Course materials required.

                Boat Diver

                $100.00

Much of the world’s best scuba diving is accessible only by boat. Whether you’ve never made a boat dive or you’ve logged dozens, the Boat Diver Specialty course will benefit you because boats in various parts of the world do things differently. Scuba diving from a boat is fun and relatively easy because you usually descend directly onto your dive site.

If you’re a (Junior) Open Water Diver who is at least 10 years old, you can enroll in the Boat Diver course.

Course materials required. Boat charter extra.
