The Staple cylinder in the diving industry is the 80 Cubic Foot Aluminum Tank. This cylinder is used by more divers’ dive operators and retail dive stores than any other type of cylinder available.
Aluminum cylinders unlike steel cylinders don’t rust, they oxidize. The oxidization of aluminum forms a protective coat that hinders the continuation of corrosion making aluminum cylinders less likely to be condemned due to excessive corrosion. When shipped the tanks valves will be removed and the tank will require re-inspection before being filled. Note: All Catalina cylinders are nitrox ready and meet certificated specifications of the US Department of Transportation (DOT) with DOT-3AL specification and Transport Canada Safety and Security (TC) with TC-3ALM specifications.
The Catalina 80 Cubic Foot Aluminum Tank is commonly used for Cave Diving, Cold Water, Night Diving, Open Water, Recreation, Warm Water, Wreck Diving and more. The Catalina 80 Cubic Foot Aluminum Tank is most used by customers who consider themselves to be a Advanced, Advanced Diver, Beginner, Casual/ Recreational, Professional, Recreational Diver among others.

In 1988, Luxfer introduced scuba tanks manufactured from L6X, a proprietary formula of aluminum alloy 6061-T6 developed by Luxfer metallurgists to provide superior corrosion-resistance and dependable performance in the most demanding underwater environments. The manufacturing of Luxfer scuba cylinders has been relocated to the Graham, North Carolina factory. The original tooling is being used to maintain the same specifications, buoyancy and weight distribution. Proprietary L6X 6061-T6 aluminum alloy which has an unsurpassed record for safety and dependability will continue to be used. Luxfer is the preferred choice by military, commercial and technical divers worldwide.
The Aluminum 80 cu ft (11.1 liters) cylinder is the staple of the diving industry. You most likely used them in your first Scuba Class and on most charter boats around the world. The tank is a 3000 psi (200 bars) service pressure tank measuring 25.8″ (65.5cm) tall with a 7.3″ (18.5cm) diameter. The cylinder weighs 24.4lbs (18.64kg) is negative 1.7lbs (771g) when full in salt water and is positively buoyant 4.2lbs (1.9kg) when empty.
