IANTD Recreational CCR FATHOM MK III DIVER

$2,000.00

The IANTD Recreational CCR FATHOM MK III DIVER Course is your first step into closed circuit rebreather diving and your first truly quiet dive experience! Using the latest technology in CCRs can maximize your gas supply and provide an optimum breathing gas for any depth by maintaining a constant partial pressure of oxygen. It’s like having a nitrox blending machine on your back! During this course, your instructor will teach you all the necessary skills to conduct no decompression CCR dives to a maximum depth of 30 meters/100 feet using air diluent.

The FATHOM Mk III CCR is designed to be the simplest and most intuitive closed-circuit rebreather for underwater exploration. Several years ago, as their dives became increasingly deeper and longer duration, Karst Underwater Research (KUR) divers recognized the need for a new closed-circuit rebreather (CCR) with excellent work-of-breathing and long scrubber duration that would stand up to the rigors of cave exploration. The shortlist of desired features included:

  1. a radial scrubber for the best possible work-of-breathing and scrubber efficiency,
  2. at least an 8 lb/3.6 kg scrubber capacity for long-duration dives,
  3. back-mounted counter-lungs to maintain streamlining and easy stage-bottle handling,
  4. off-board gas addition capability for diluent/bailout, and
  5. mechanical oxygen addition for reliability.

Unable to find an existing unit that met these requirements, KUR diver Charlie Roberson started to design what would eventually become the FATHOM CCR. There are no easy decisions when it comes to rebreather design and every choice, every dimension, every o-ring, was debated endlessly with fellow KUR divers.  Ultimately, the final decisions were Charlie’s, and his background as a machinist in the US Navy and Hogarthian/DIR cave diver guided him towards simplicity and functionality. The result of these efforts was the FATHOM CCR. Refinements to the original design continue and the FATHOM Mk III CCR is the latest version.

As with any diving equipment, it is essential to receive proper training and certification before using the FATHOM MK III or any rebreather system. Diving with a rebreather requires additional knowledge and skills beyond open-circuit scuba diving due to the different gas management and potential risks associated with closed-circuit systems.

Frequently Asked Question

Q: Who this rebreather course is for?

A: The certified diver looking to advance their diver-level training and equipment configurations by learning to dive a rebreather. Whether you are an avid photographer, want to experience the silence of diving a rebreather, or looking to get closer to the marine life – rebreather diving is for you.

Q: What is the prerequisite for the IANTD Recreational CCR FATHOM MK III DIVER Course?

  1. Certification Requirement:
  2. IANTD Open Water Diver or equivalent.
  3. IANTD EANx Diver or equivalent.
  4. Age Requirement:
  5. Must be a minimum of 18 years of age.
  6. Dive experience:
  7. Must provide proof of 20 open-water dives with at least 15 hours underwater using open-circuit scuba.

Q: What’s in it for you?

A: Upon successful completion of this course, graduates may engage in diving activities utilizing the CCR they were trained to dive without direct supervision of the instructor so long as the following limits are adhered to:

  • The diving activities approximate those of training.
  • The areas of activities approximate those of training.
  • Environmental conditions approximate those of training.
  • To a maximum depth of 30 meters/100 feet.
  • No decompression dives are permitted.

Q: What is the course structure?

A: It is a minimum 5-day course. You will need to complete the online eLearning course before coming to the class. The first day will be classroom only. We will cover information that is not in eLearning (It’s a lot!), and we’ll learn how to build the unit and all the necessary tests. Day 2 – 5 will be four days of diving with a minimum of 420 minutes of confined and open water dives.

Q: Where can I find more information about FATHOM MK III CCR?

A: FATHOM has a very informative product introduction page on their website.

https://www.fathomdive.com/fathom-ccr/

Q: Do I need to purchase my own CCR for the course?

A: Yes, unless you have access to a unit. We do not have a rental unit at this time.

Q: How much does a new FATHOM MK III CCR cost?

A: A brand new FATHOM MK III CCR is USD $9995 plus any shipping, duties, and taxes.

Q: Can I buy a used FATHOM MK III CCR?

A: Yes. If you decide to buy one, it is highly recommended that you have it serviced before the course. The instructor will also need to inspect the unit before the start of the course. There aren’t many used FATHOM on the market because it’s a keeper!

Q: How much is the course and what does it include?

A: The course fee is $2000 plus tax based on a class of 2 or 3 for a 5-day course. It includes the training and certification fee after successfully completing the course.

Q: What is the extra cost for this course?

A: Here are some examples of potential extra charges for the course:

  • eLearning
  • Any rental you might need.
  • Air and Nitrox fills are included in the course fee, but O2 or Trimix fills are extra.
  • Boat charter fee if we need to hire a boat. The instructor’s charter fee will be shared with the whole class.
  • Sofnolime (Carbon Dioxide absorbent). You could either buy a keg from us (20kg) or we can charge you per fill.
  • Your travel expenses.
  • The instructor can also travel to you, providing all the necessary gear and mixed gas can be provided by your local dive shop. The instructor’s travel expenses will be split among the class.

Q: How do I sign up for this course?

A: Send an email to hao@eoldiving.com.  Our instructor will be happy to help you with any questions and sign up for the course!

    $599.00

Are you looking to expand your dive time? Maybe you’re a scientific diver or photographer looking to stay in the water a little longer? The TDI Advanced Nitrox Course qualifies divers to use enriched air nitrox from EAN 21 through EAN 100 percent within your current certification level to a maximum depth of 40 metres/130 feet during dives that do not require staged decompression. Often taught in conjunction with the TDI Decompression Procedures course, this can be considered the foundation of your technical diving career. TDI Advanced Nitrox is also a must for SCR or CCR divers.

    TDI eLearning ($200) not included.

  • Trimix

    $999.00

Are you looking to expand your depth range? Do you want to reduce narcosis during deep dives? The TDI Trimix Diver Course could be your next step! As your motivation to explore progresses, you will find that you may want to go deeper to dive that wreck that is part of history or that cave system that you have read so much about. One of the major limiting factors of going deeper is narcosis; TDI’s Trimix Diver course shows how to minimize the effects of narcosis by adding helium to offset the nitrogen in your breathing gas. While taking the Trimix Diver course your TDI Instructor will teach you how to plan and execute dives utilizing as little as 18 percent oxygen and diving to maximum depth of 60 metres/200 feet with a blend of helium appropriate for the planned depth.

    TDI eLearning ($200) not included.

  • Extended Range

    $999.00

Certain areas of the world provide spectacular dives at depths deeper than 39 metres/130 feet but you may not have access (or very limited access) to helium. The TDI Extended Range course teaches you the proper techniques for utilizing compressed air as a breathing gas, and with a maximum depth of 55 metres/180 feet, so you don’t have to miss those dives! The TDI Extended Range Diver Course provides the training and experience necessary including proper techniques, equipment requirements, and hazards of deep air diving, to competently utilize air for dives up to 55 metres/180 feet that require staged decompression, using nitrox mixtures or oxygen during decompression.

    TDI eLearning ($200) not included.
