Christian Island
$300.00Christian Island and surrounding area of southern Georgian Bay in Lake Huron is a favourite destination for beginner and advanced divers alike, thanks to its crystal clear waters and close proximity of a number of old shipwrecks. Most of these shipwrecks date back a century or more, like the Marquette (1867), the Mapledawn (1924), and the Michigan (1843). This area of Georgian Bay, just off the shores of Penetanguishene and Midland, is the final resting place to hundreds of other sunken vessels, many of great historical value. These shipwrecks are generally well preserved, due to the cold, fresh water conditions. There are also amazing rock formations to see, with some underwater glacial erratics (boulders) the size of homes, that have been transported by the movement of ice during the ice age 70,000 years ago.
