Product Description

Many divers find the Advanced Open Water course very advantageous to have prior to going on a dive trip locally or abroad. Not only will you increase your own comfort and ability, but this certification is recognized globally and will enable you to access different dive sites than you may be able to explore with just an Open Water card. You will be certified to dive deeper (30m/100ft) and go on exciting night dives. With an Advanced Open Water certification, you will also be recognized as a more experienced diver with buoyancy, navigation and communication skills, while also being able to visit more sensitive marine environments. In addition, certain continuing education scuba courses such as the PADI Wreck Diver Specialty or Cavern Diver Specialty require a minimum of an Advanced Open Water certification.

This course is focused largely on the practical, in-water side of training; however, students are required to complete some homework prior to completing their dives. The Adventures in Diving manual contains a wealth of information on various Adventure Dives. These will be assigned when you register and pick up your materials. Knowledge Reviews for these chapters must be completed. Topics include dive planning, rescue techniques, navigational diving, deep diving, and night diving. This program consists of pre and post dive briefings during the weekend of Advanced Open Water dives.

5 dives are included in the Advanced Open Water course. These can be completed in one weekend, either in Tobermory or Brockville. The dives normally consist of Peak Performance Buoyancy, Drift, Night, Navigation, and Deep, but these may vary slightly from course to course depending upon divers’ needs, conditions, and other contributing factors. Deep and Navigation dives are, however, mandatory components of the Advanced Open Water course and must be completed to earn the certification.

The only prerequisites for the Advanced Open Water course are a clean bill of health according to the medical statement and an Open Water certification (or equivalent).

Minimum Age:
– 12 years for a Junior Advanced Open Water Certification
– 15 years for Advanced Open Water Certification

Note: We evaluate each young diver individually upon inquiry/registration for ability to participate in an adult oriented learning environment and the physical demands of cold water diving. Some 12 year old are prepared for these challenges whereas some 16 year old may not be yet. This is strictly for safety purposes and we believe that scuba diving can be enjoyed by all ages, if approached responsibly.

  • Dry Suit Diver

    $150.00

Want to stay warm? Want to extend your scuba diving season? Then dive dry. A dry suit seals you off from the water and keeps you comfortable, even in surprisingly cold water. There is incredible diving in the world’s cooler regions and in some areas, conditions are even better in colder months. You will enjoy diving the wrecks of Tobermory and Brockville even more. Becoming a dry suit diver allows you to expand your boundaries and dive more places, more often.

If you’re at least 10 years old and certified as a (Junior) Open Water Diver or higher, you can enroll in the Dry Suit Diver course.

  • Night Diver

    $150.00

The thought of dipping below the surface at night seems mysterious, yet so alluring. Although you’ve been scuba diving at a site many times before, at night you drop into a whole new world and watch it come to life under the glow of your dive light. The scene changes as day creatures retire and nocturnal organisms emerge. If you’ve wondered what happens underwater after the sun goes down, sign up for the Night Diver Specialty course.

(Junior) Open Water Divers or higher, who are at least 12 years old, can enroll in the Night Diver specialty course.

    Course materials required.

  • Wreck Diver

    $200.00

Ontario waters offer a rainbow of colours, all of it brown and green. By far, the greatest attraction for divers are the hundreds of shipwrecks in the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence Seaway waterways. Merely floating nearby and only viewing the wrecks from a distance can wear thin quickly. Most divers have the overwhelming urge to explore and penetrate into the wrecks.

To accomplish this requires very specialized techniques and considerations for safety. In an over-head underwater environment, divers can no longer swim directly to the surface. Finding a way out, avoiding excessive silting of the site and the use of lines is discussed and demonstrated. Training will be conducted with an on-site briefing and three open water dives on different wrecks.

Whether purpose-sunk as an artificial reef for scuba divers, or lost as the result of an accident, wrecks are fascinating windows to the past. Ships, airplanes and even cars are fascinating to explore and usually teem with aquatic life. Each wreck dive offers a chance for discovery, potentially unlocking a mystery or spying something others have missed. The Wreck Diver Specialty course is popular because it offers rewarding adventures while observing responsible wreck diving practices.

If you’re at least 15 years old and have earned a Adventure Diver certification or higher, you can enroll in the Wreck Diver Specialty course.

    Deep Diver

    $200.00

The lure of the deep. There’s something exciting and mysterious about exploring deeper dive sites while scuba diving. Sometimes it’s a wreck that attracts you below 18 metres/60 feet, and on wall dives it may be a giant fan or sponge. Whatever it is, to scuba dive with confidence at depths down to 40 metres/130 feet, you should take the Deep Diver Specialty course.

If you’ve earned the Adventure Diver rating or higher, and you’re at least 15 years old, you can enroll in the Deep Diver course.

Course materials required. Boat charter additional.

There are no prerequisites, age restrictions or water sessions required for this course – it’s open to everyone. Scuba divers, snorkelers and anyone who is around divers – boat crew, lifeguards, etc. – will benefit from having this training.
