IANTD CCR ADV. RECREATIONAL TRIMIX (PLUS) FATHOM GEMINI DIVER

$2,400.00

This is the second level certification course for divers wishing to utilize a Closed-Circuit Rebreather (CCR) for mixed gas diving using a Helitrox Diluent. You can take this course directly if you are a trained decompression diver in open circuit. The objective of the course is to train divers in the benefits, hazards, and proper procedures for diving a CCR and to develop basic CCR diving skills, to a maximum of 45 meters/150 feet, using an air/nitrox/helium diluent for formal decompression diving. Students are permitted to utilize a diluent and bailout mix with no greater than a 35% helium content and no less than a 20% oxygen content.

The FATHOM Gemini is a split-scrubber design mCCR that goes on a standard open circuit sidemount setup. It gives you an extremely streamlined and flat profile, which makes it an excellent tool for cave diving. You don’t need to change your style of diving if you are an avid sidemount diver already. FATHOM Gemini features the same needle valve for oxygen addition, in this case, on a dual-button MAV. It comes standard with a GOLEM DSV, but can be easily switched to a GOLEM BOV, if preferred.

As with any diving equipment, it is essential to receive proper training and certification before using the FATHOM Gemini or any rebreather system. Diving with a rebreather requires additional knowledge and skills beyond open-circuit scuba diving due to the different gas management and potential risks associated with closed-circuit systems.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Who this rebreather course is for?

A: The open circuit technical diver, or entry level CCR diver, who’s looking to utilize CCR technology to extend their depth limits and bottom times.

Q: What is the prerequisite for IANTD CCR ADV. RECREATIONAL TRIMIX (PLUS) FATHOM GEMINI DIVER Course?

  1. Option 1 – Certifications requirements:
  2. Must be qualified in IANTD Recreational CCR Diver or equivalent or higher.
  3. Age requirement:
  4. Must be a minimum of 18 years of age.
  5. Dive experience:
  6. Have logged 20 open water dives with at least 20 hours underwater using a rebreather.

OR

  1. Option 2 – Certifications requirements:
  2. Must be qualified in IANTD Deep DECO Diver or equivalent or higher.
  3. Must be qualified in IANTD EANx Diver or equivalent.
  4. Age requirement:
  5. Must be a minimum of 18 years of age.
  6. Dive experience:
  7. Have logged 30 open water dives with at least 25 hours underwater using open circuit scuba and have

logged at least five dives to a minimum depth of 100 fsw/30 msw.

Q: What’s in it for you?

A: Upon successful completion of this course, graduates may engage in decompression diving activities utilizing the CCR they were trained to dive with, without direct supervision of the instructor so long as the following limits are adhered to:

  • The diving activities approximate those of training.
  • The areas of activities approximate those of training.
  • Environmental conditions approximate those of training.
  • To a maximum depth of 45 meters/150 feet.
  • Utilizing Helitrox diluent.

Q: What is the course structure?

A: It is a minimum 6-day course. You will need to complete the online eLearning course before coming to the class. The first day will be classroom only. We will cover information that is not in eLearning (It’s a lot!), and we’ll learn how to build the unit and all the necessary tests. Day 2 – 6 will be four days of diving with a minimum of 480 minutes of confined and open water dives.

Q: Which sidemount systems are compatible with FATHOM Gemini CCR?

A: Razor, Xdeep Stealth 2.0 Rec/Tec and Hollis Katana 2 work well with Gemini. If you use anything else, please contact your instructor to make sure your harness is compatible with Gemini.

Q: Do I need prior sidemount training for this course?

A: Yes. Otherwise, your Gemini course could potentially become an open circuit sidemount course. You need to have proper technical sidemount training and good fundamental skills for this course. The whole course is built upon your open circuit sidemount skills.

Q: Where can I find more information about FATHOM Gemini CCR?

A: FATHOM has a product page for configuration.

https://www.fathomdive.com/product/fathom-gemini-ccr/

Q: Do I need to purchase my own CCR for the course?

A: Yes, unless you have access to a unit. We do recommend that you come to the course with your own unit. Just like sidemount, a sidemount rebreather is highly customized and tailored to yourself. Having your own unit will maximize the learning outcome. We do not have a rental unit currently.

Q: How much does a new FATHOM Gemini CCR cost?

A: A brand new FATHOM Gemini CCR is USD $7695 equipped with DSV and Petrel 3 as standard

Q: Can I buy a used FATHOM Gemini CCR?

A: Yes. If you decide to buy one, it is highly recommended that you have it serviced before the course. The instructor will also need to inspect the unit before the start of the course. It’s hard to find a used Gemini on the market, as it’s only been around for a year. Plus, almost all owners love it!

Q: How much is the course and what does it include?

A: The course fee is $2400 plus tax based on a class of 2 or 3 for a 6-day course. It includes the training and certification fee after successfully completing the course.

Q: What is the extra cost for this course?

A: Here are some examples of potential extra charges for the course:

  • eLearning
  • Any rental you might need.
  • Air and Nitrox fills are included in the course fee, but O2 or Trimix fills are extra.
  • Boat charter fee if we need to hire a boat. The instructor’s charter fee will be shared with the whole class.
  • Sofnolime (Carbon Dioxide absorbent). You could either buy a keg from us (20kg) or we can charge you per fill.
  • Your travel expenses.
  • The instructor can also travel to you, providing all the necessary gear and mixed gas can be provided by your local dive shop. The instructor’s travel expenses will be split among the class.

Q: How do I sign up for this course?

A: Send an email to hao@eoldiving.com.  Our instructor will be happy to help you with any questions and sign up for the course!
