Emergency First Response courses encompass adult, child and infant CPR and first aid skills, and incorporate Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) training and emergency oxygen use. Emergency First Response also offers comprehensive First Aid at Work courses, specifically designed to meet national and international compliance standards for CPR and first aid courses in the workplace.

The Emergency First Response courses build lay rescuer confidence to provide care when faced with a medical emergency. Participants learn and practice the same patient care techniques and principles used by medical professionals, but at a lay person level.

The fun part about Emergency First Response training is learning serious medical emergency response skills in an upbeat, positive environment. You gain the confidence that you are prepared to help in an emergency.

What You Learn in the EFR Primary and Secondary Care Courses

            • BLS (Basic Life Support) CPR and rescue breathing at the layperson level
            • AED (automated external defibrillator) use (optional)
            • Preventing and caring for shock
            • Spinal injury management
            • Use of barriers to reduce disease transmission risk
            • Basic first aid and first aid kit considerations

            The Learning Materials You Need
Through a combination of independent study and skill practice with an instructor, you’ll build the confidence and skills to provide basic emergency care. The Primary and Secondary Care Manual and video on DVD preview emergency scenarios and provide step-by-step skill demonstrations.

The Emergency First Response Care at a Glance card is a quick-reference guide for emergency situations. Designed to fit in a glove compartment or backpack, the Care at a Glance card is an important component for any first-aid or disaster preparedness kit.

            Prerequisites
To enroll in Emergency First Response courses, you must care about other people and want to be able to assist them in a medical emergency

            Your Next Adventure
After completing Primary and Secondary Care, take the PADI Rescue Diver course and the PADI Emergency Oxygen Provider course. Together, these three courses round out your ability to handle scuba diver emergencies.

            • Night Diver

              $150.00

The thought of dipping below the surface at night seems mysterious, yet so alluring. Although you’ve been scuba diving at a site many times before, at night you drop into a whole new world and watch it come to life under the glow of your dive light. The scene changes as day creatures retire and nocturnal organisms emerge. If you’ve wondered what happens underwater after the sun goes down, sign up for the PADI Night Diver Specialty course.

PADI (Junior) Open Water Divers or higher, who are at least 12 years old, can enroll in the Night Diver specialty course.

              PADI materials required.

            • Wreck Diver

              $200.00

Ontario waters offer a rainbow of colours, all of it brown and green. By far, the greatest attraction for divers are the hundreds of shipwrecks in the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence Seaway waterways. Merely floating nearby and only viewing the wrecks from a distance can wear thin quickly. Most divers have the overwhelming urge to explore and penetrate into the wrecks.

To accomplish this requires very specialized techniques and considerations for safety. In an over-head underwater environment, divers can no longer swim directly to the surface. Finding a way out, avoiding excessive silting of the site and the use of lines is discussed and demonstrated. Training will be conducted with an on-site briefing and three open water dives on different wrecks.

Whether purpose-sunk as an artificial reef for scuba divers, or lost as the result of an accident, wrecks are fascinating windows to the past. Ships, airplanes and even cars are fascinating to explore and usually teem with aquatic life. Each wreck dive offers a chance for discovery, potentially unlocking a mystery or spying something others have missed. The PADI Wreck Diver Specialty course is popular because it offers rewarding adventures while observing responsible wreck diving practices.

If you’re at least 15 years old and have earned a PADI Adventure Diver certification or higher, you can enroll in the Wreck Diver Specialty course.

              PADI materials required.

              $200.00

The lure of the deep. There’s something exciting and mysterious about exploring deeper dive sites while scuba diving. Sometimes it’s a wreck that attracts you below 18 metres/60 feet, and on wall dives it may be a giant fan or sponge. Whatever it is, to scuba dive with confidence at depths down to 40 metres/130 feet, you should take the PADI Deep Diver Specialty course.

If you’ve earned the PADI Adventure Diver rating or higher, and you’re at least 15 years old, you can enroll in the Deep Diver course.

It feels like flying – except that you’re underwater using scuba equipment. Drift diving can be relaxing and exhilarating at the same time. If this sounds like fun, then the Drift Diver course is for you.

If you’re a PADI (Junior) Open Water Diver who is at least 12 years old, you can enroll in the Drift Diver specialty course.

The course covers basic safety, technical and practical knowledge necessary to be a competent full face mask diver and feel comfortable using your system. You will participate in an academic session to learn the features of full face masks, gain familiarity with the system in the pool, and finish by demonstrating skills in the open water to gain your full face mask certification specialty card.

If you’re a PADI (Junior) Open Water Diver who is at least 12 years old, you can enroll in the Full Face Mask specialty course.

            • Cavern Diver

              $200.00

Caverns exist in many areas where scuba divers venture – from freshwater springs to volcanic island walls and limestone coasts. In these locations you’ll find large, dark spaces that seem incredibly inviting, yet are potentially dangerous. The PADI Cavern Diver Specialty course gives you the knowledge and skills to explore caverns correctly – allowing you to enter far enough for adventure, but staying within the light zone for an easy exit to open water.

You need to be PADI Advanced Open Water Diver who is at least 18 years old to enroll in the Cavern Diver course.
