Love sharks? Scared of sharks? Or do you just want to know more about them? Enroll in an Shark Conservation Specialty course and discover the value of sharks to marine ecosystems and economies. You’ll learn more about the causes of declining shark populations and the actions you can take to become a knowledgeable and passionate shark defender. By being informed, you can dispel misconceptions and act to protect sharks. Sharks need you!

If you’re a (Junior) Open Water Diver who is at least 12 years old, you can enroll in the Shark Conservation Diver Specialty course.

 

Academic

At the end of your classroom session and two open water dives, you will be able to explain:

  • The conservation status of sharks, why they are unique and vulnerable, and the importance of healthy shark populations.
  • How to manage threats to sharks, recognize the value of sharks and remove barriers to conservation.
  • Actions you can take to protect sharks and how joining a global movement of divers can help to protect sharks.

Get credit! The first dive of this Specialty Diver course may credit as an Adventure Dive toward your Advanced Open Water Diver certification – ask your instructor about earning credit.

    Rescue Diver will expand your knowledge and experience beyond purely recreational level because you’ll learn to look beyond yourself and consider the safety and well being of other divers. Although this course is serious, it is an enjoyable way to build your confidence. Anyone 15 years or older (12 years for Junior Rescue Diver) and in reasonably good health, Open Water Diver, Junior or equivalent certification can participate.     Whether you’re seeking an adventure found in exploring a sunken ship, the feeling of almost like being on the moon, taking beautiful pictures of coral reefs, exploring a water wonderland, or just another new weekend activity, then scuba diving is for you! The Open Water Diver course is the world’s most popular scuba course, and has introduced millions of people to the adventurous diving lifestyle. It is the gateway to new adventures underwater and a life changing experience.

    The fun part about this course is… well, just about all of it because learning to dive is incredible! You breathe underwater for the first time (something you’ll never forget) and learn what you need to know to become a certified diver. During this course, you’ll complete the theory and pool training of basic scuba principles. You will then have up to a year to complete 4 checkout dives out in the open water under the direct supervision of your Instructor. Once that’s done, you’re issued your Open Water Diver certification and you are a certified diver for life! Over 70% of the earth is covered with water. It’s a diver’s world out there. This is an adventure you will never forget!

  • Peak Performance Buoyancy

    $150.00

    Excellent buoyancy control is what defines skilled scuba divers. You’ve seen them underwater. They glide effortlessly, use less air and ascend, descend or hover almost as if by thought. They more easily observe aquatic life without disturbing their surroundings. You can achieve this, too. The Peak Performance Buoyancy Specialty course improves the buoyancy skills you learned as a new diver and elevates them to the next level.

    (Junior) Open Water Divers or higher, who are at least 10 years old, are eligible to take the Peak Performance Buoyancy course.

  • Wreck Diver

    $200.00

    Ontario waters offer a rainbow of colours, all of it brown and green. By far, the greatest attraction for divers are the hundreds of shipwrecks in the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence Seaway waterways. Merely floating nearby and only viewing the wrecks from a distance can wear thin quickly. Most divers have the overwhelming urge to explore and penetrate into the wrecks.

    To accomplish this requires very specialized techniques and considerations for safety. In an over-head underwater environment, divers can no longer swim directly to the surface. Finding a way out, avoiding excessive silting of the site and the use of lines is discussed and demonstrated. Training will be conducted with an on-site briefing and three open water dives on different wrecks.

    Whether purpose-sunk as an artificial reef for scuba divers, or lost as the result of an accident, wrecks are fascinating windows to the past. Ships, airplanes and even cars are fascinating to explore and usually teem with aquatic life. Each wreck dive offers a chance for discovery, potentially unlocking a mystery or spying something others have missed. The Wreck Diver Specialty course is popular because it offers rewarding adventures while observing responsible wreck diving practices.

    If you’re at least 15 years old and have earned a Adventure Diver certification or higher, you can enroll in the Wreck Diver Specialty course.

    Boat Diver

    $100.00

    Much of the world’s best scuba diving is accessible only by boat. Whether you’ve never made a boat dive or you’ve logged dozens, the Boat Diver Specialty course will benefit you because boats in various parts of the world do things differently. Scuba diving from a boat is fun and relatively easy because you usually descend directly onto your dive site.

    If you’re a (Junior) Open Water Diver who is at least 10 years old, you can enroll in the Boat Diver course.

  • Emergency Oxygen Provider

    $100.00 – $149.99

    Knowing how and when to use emergency oxygen is a great skill to have and means you’re ready to help others should the need arise. Becoming an Emergency Oxygen Provider lets you breathe easy knowing that you can recognize scuba diving illnesses treatable with emergency oxygen, and are prepared to offer aid.

    There are no prerequisites, age restrictions or water sessions required for this course – it’s open to everyone. Scuba divers, snorkelers and anyone who is around divers – boat crew, lifeguards, etc. – will benefit from having this training.
