Wreck Diver

$200.00

Ontario waters offer a rainbow of colours, all of it brown and green. By far, the greatest attraction for divers are the hundreds of shipwrecks in the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence Seaway waterways. Merely floating nearby and only viewing the wrecks from a distance can wear thin quickly. Most divers have the overwhelming urge to explore and penetrate into the wrecks.

To accomplish this requires very specialized techniques and considerations for safety. In an over-head underwater environment, divers can no longer swim directly to the surface. Finding a way out, avoiding excessive silting of the site and the use of lines is discussed and demonstrated. Training will be conducted with an on-site briefing and three open water dives on different wrecks.

Whether purpose-sunk as an artificial reef for scuba divers, or lost as the result of an accident, wrecks are fascinating windows to the past. Ships, airplanes and even cars are fascinating to explore and usually teem with aquatic life. Each wreck dive offers a chance for discovery, potentially unlocking a mystery or spying something others have missed. The Wreck Diver Specialty course is popular because it offers rewarding adventures while observing responsible wreck diving practices.

If you’re at least 15 years old and have earned a Adventure Diver certification or higher, you can enroll in the Wreck Diver Specialty course.

Product Description

What will you learn?

There are many different types of wrecks, some of which are protected by laws that guard their historical and cultural significance. Your training starts by reviewing guidelines for researching and respecting wrecks. During four dives you’ll learn:

  • Safety considerations for navigating and exploring wrecks.
  • Surveying and mapping a wreck.
  • Using penetration lines and reels to guide exploration.
  • Techniques to avoid kicking up silt or disturbing the wreck and its inhabitants.

Also, the first dive of this Specialty Diver course may credit as an Adventure Dive toward your Advanced Open Water Diver certification – ask your instructor about earning credit.

How can you start learning now?

Get a Wreck Diver Manual and Wreck Diving video at our dive shop when you enroll in the course. Read the manual and watch the video before meeting with your Instructor to discuss the wrecks you’ll visit during your open water scuba dives.

What scuba gear will you use?

You’ll need your basic scuba equipment, plus a dive light to see into the wreck, a slate and underwater compass for mapping and navigation, and a line and reel for practicing wreck penetration. Your Instructor may suggest other gear appropriate for wreck diving in your area.

Have you already completed the class and pool training less than 1 year ago? All you need now is your 4 open water checkout dives. The 4 open water checkout dives have to be done out in the open waters, such as a lake, river or ocean. We do our open water dives in a safe and fun environment, Gulliver’s Lake, where we built our very own 20×20 training platform for you to use and feel more comfortable while completing your skills. During the open water checkout dives, your Instructor will be testing you on the skills that you have learned during the pool portion of the Class & Pool course. Once you have successfully completed all the skills, you will be issued the Open Water Diver certification card. How exciting is that?!

  • Enriched Air Diver

    $149.00 – $249.00

*PLEASE NOTE: There is a $50 fee for less than 1 weeks’ notice of rescheduling or cancelling your course.*

The Enriched Air Diver course (Basic Nitrox) is our most popular specialty scuba course. Why? Because scuba diving with enriched air nitrox gives you more no decompression time, especially on repetitive scuba dives. If staying down longer and getting back in the water sooner sounds appealing, then don’t hesitate to become an enriched air diver.

If you’re a (Junior) Open Water Diver who is at least 12 years old, you can enroll in the Enriched Air Diver Specialty course. Note that in some regions the minimum age is older than 12.

Can’t make it to class? We’re flexible! Choose the Elearning option and contact the store to schedule a “Quick Review” with an instructor at your convenience.

    Course Time: 7:00 – 9:30 pm

  • Sidemount Diver

    $299.00 – $499.00

Having scuba tanks on your back isn’t a requirement for exploring the underwater world. Many scuba divers have discovered the joy of mounting cylinders on their sides. Sidemount diving gives you flexibility and streamlining options. Plus, you don’t have to walk with heavy cylinders on your back – just enter the water, clip them on and go. Sound interesting? Sign up for the Sidemount Diver Specialty course.

If you’re an Open Water Diver who is at least 15 years old, you can enroll in a Sidemount Diver course.

The TDI Sidemount Diver Course is the ideal specialty for any diver wishing to use this increasingly popular equipment configuration; either as a stand-alone course OR in conjunction with one of TDI’s other open circuit technical specialties such as Decompression Procedures, Extended Range, Trimix, Advanced Trimix, and Advanced Wreck. If this course is combined, the requirements for BOTH courses must be met. The TDI Sidemount Diver course teaches students how to utilize side-mounted primary cylinders as an alternative to the traditional back-mounted method.

    Extra Costs
    Sidemount Manual: $69.99
    TDI Sidemount Manual: $69.99
Sidemount System Rental (BCD, regulators, 2 Nitrox tanks): $300

  • Dry Suit Diver

    $150.00

Want to stay warm? Want to extend your scuba diving season? Then dive dry. A dry suit seals you off from the water and keeps you comfortable, even in surprisingly cold water. There is incredible diving in the world’s cooler regions and in some areas, conditions are even better in colder months. You will enjoy diving the wrecks of Tobermory and Brockville even more. Becoming a dry suit diver allows you to expand your boundaries and dive more places, more often.

If you’re at least 10 years old and certified as a (Junior) Open Water Diver or higher, you can enroll in the Dry Suit Diver course.

    Extra Costs
    Dry Suit Manual: $99.99
Dry Suit & Thermal Underwear Rental: $120

  • Emergency Oxygen Provider

    $100.00 – $149.99

Knowing how and when to use emergency oxygen is a great skill to have and means you’re ready to help others should the need arise. There are no prerequisites, age restrictions or water sessions required for this course – it’s open to everyone. Scuba divers, snorkelers and anyone who is around divers – boat crew, lifeguards, etc. – will benefit from having this training.
